DOHA — Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, met Wednesday with Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Defense, Prince Khalid bin Salman, to discuss ways to strengthen relations between the two Gulf neighbors.
The meeting took place in Doha during Prince Khalid’s official visit to Qatar.
Leaders Focus on Fraternal Relations
During the talks, both sides reviewed the strong fraternal ties between Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
They also explored steps to deepen cooperation and expand coordination between the two countries.
In addition, the leaders discussed:
- Recent regional developments
- Ongoing diplomatic and security efforts
- Issues of shared interest
The discussions reflected continued engagement between the two governments.
Greetings Exchanged Between Gulf Leaders
At the start of the meeting, Prince Khalid conveyed greetings from King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to the Qatari emir.
He also shared their wishes for:
- Sheikh Tamim’s continued health
- Stability and progress for Qatar and its people
In response, Sheikh Tamim sent his greetings to King Salman and the crown prince.
He expressed wishes for their good health and for continued prosperity for Saudi Arabia.
Visit Comes Under Saudi Leadership Directives
Prince Khalid traveled to Doha under the directives of King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
The visit forms part of ongoing diplomatic engagement between the two Gulf states.
Saudi Arabia and Qatar have worked in recent years to restore and strengthen relations after a period of regional tension.
Senior Officials Attend the Meeting
Several senior officials attended the talks.
Those present included:
- Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani
- A number of Qatari ministers
- Members of the Saudi delegation accompanying the defense minister
